WHY SOME DOGS CAN SEE FARTHER AND BETTER THAN OTHERS

WHY SOME DOGS CAN SEE FARTHER AND BETTER THAN OTHERS

Dogs have different retina arrangement depending on the breed. Dogs like most other mammals are dichromatic with colour vision equivalent to the red-green colour blindness as in humans.

Dogs having long nose with a ‘visual streak’ which run across the width of the retina have a very wide field of view of excellent vision, while those with short nose with an area ‘centralis’ have vision much more like humans.

The GREYHOUND, a SIGHTHOUND, has been discovered to have a field view of 270° compared to 180° for humans. Broad-headed breeds having short nose have a much smaller vision of about 180°.
